New information to support parents and carers of little ones under 5

NHS Greater Manchester has unveiled a handy, pocket-sized guide designed to help parents and carers cope with childhood illnesses – from the comfort of their own home.

Designed to be clear and easily accessible, this new leaflet has information on common illnesses, including earache, measles, croup, fever and more – plus a summary of the different health services available.

Included

  • Details of different symptoms and what to expect
  • Tips on how to manage common illnesses at home
  • When to seek help from a pharmacist or GP
  • An all-important list of ‘red flag’ symptoms that mean you should seek emergency medical help

You can download a fully accessible electronic version to keep on your smartphone or other device for quick and easy reference.

Where you’ll find it

Printed copies come in a small ‘concertina’ format that means it’s easy to stash in a pocket, handbag or nappy bag so you can keep it close to hand.

Look out for copies in your local GP practice, pharmacy, family hub, food bank, library, and other locations in your local community. Many schools and nurseries have also received their own supply to share with parents and carers.

Tens of thousands of printed leaflets are being delivered across Greater Manchester, with NHS GM working with partners such as NHS local care organisations, hospital trusts, councils, and voluntary sector organisations to make sure they reach those who really need them.

This brand-new leaflet is the latest publication to be released as part of NHS GM’s Get To Know Where To Go campaign which aims to ensure people know all about the health services available to them in Greater Manchester.

If you get to know where to go, you can get the help you and your family need more quickly – in the right place, at the right time. This can also help to ease pressure on the NHS so those who are seriously unwell can get seen more quickly.
